VIVA: PLOS Institutional Partnership

Virginia's Academic Library Consortium

This guide has variable layouts and houses the majority of the "sub" pages for VIVA's website.

PLOS Institutional Partnership

VIVA has started a new two-year partnership with PLOS. As part of the Flat Fee Agreement, corresponding authors at participating institutions can publish open access at no cost in seven PLOS journals:

  • PLOS Complex Systems
  • PLOS Computational Biology
  • PLOS Digital Health
  • PLOS Genetics
  • PLOS Neglected Tropical Diseases
  • PLOS ONE
  • PLOS Pathogens

No administration is required by researchers or library staff at participating institutions.

Participating Institutions: All public institutions, except Virginia Commonwealth University and College of William & Mary as they currently participate in another consortial agreement with PLOS. Participating private institutions.

Author Resources: PLOS is in the process of changing the way articles covered by institutional agreements are recognized in their submission platform (Editorial Manager). They will no longer require authors to self-select their agreement in order to benefit from no cost publication. They have begun implementation of this new process and are no longer updating the data which inform the agreement self-selection process currently in place. Until the new system is fully operational, PLOS encourages authors to enter their affiliation as normal at submission and proceed without identifying themselves as part of an institutional agreement. This means the author needs to say "no" to the question referring to institutional accounts. If the author has correctly listed their institutional affiliation in the manuscript information section, the final quote they will see will be $0.00.

If you have questions about this agreement, please write to viva@gmu.edu.
