VIVA's support for OA publishing in seven PLOS journals will end effective January 1, 2026. Articles must be formally accepted for publication by December 31st to be covered under the current agreement. PLOS journals are fully open access, so campus communities will still be able to read and download PLOS content at no cost.
PLOS Institutional Partnership
VIVA has started a new two-year partnership with PLOS. As part of the Flat Fee Agreement, corresponding authors at participating institutions can publish open access at no cost in seven PLOS journals:
- PLOS Complex Systems
- PLOS Computational Biology
- PLOS Digital Health
- PLOS Genetics
- PLOS Neglected Tropical Diseases
- PLOS ONE
- PLOS Pathogens
No administration is required by researchers or library staff at participating institutions.
Participating Institutions: All public institutions, except Virginia Commonwealth University and College of William & Mary as they currently participate in another consortial agreement with PLOS. Participating private institutions.
Author Resources:
-
During the submission process, be sure to enter your institutional affiliation correctly. PLOS's system uses this information to match you with VIVA's agreement.
- In the "Manuscript Data” section go to “Authors”.
- Go to the “Current Author List” and click the pencil icon to edit.
- In the “Institution” field, begin typing the name of your institution and then select your institution from the drop-down menu. Do not override by typing your institution name -- use the pre-populated name.
-
At the end of your submission, you will be asked to review a quote of your expected fees by clicking the “View Publication Fee” button.
- If you are affiliated with a participating institution and you are submitting to one of the seven journals listed above, the quote should be $0.00.
- Click “I agree to pay the publication fee” to move to the final submission step.
If you have questions about this agreement, please write to viva@gmu.edu.
