VIVA: RapidILL

Virginia's Academic Library Consortium

This guide has variable layouts and houses the majority of the "sub" pages for VIVA's website.

RapidILL

In response to the difficult subscription cancellation decisions experienced by many Virginia institutions of higher education, VIVA has subscribed to the RapidILL (https://rapid.exlibrisgroup.com/) service for all public institutions with an opt-in structure for the private institutions. The goal of implementing this software is to decrease the staffing burden of interlibrary loan among the VIVA members. RapidILL, through its pod structure, can provide better data for borrowing and lending articles among the VIVA institutions, as the data is driven by catalog holdings and can match down to the year level.  This software, designed specifically for resource sharing, can do automatic processing, routing, and load leveling, and it integrates with existing lending software like ILLiad and Tipasa. Implementation of this service is optional, as is the timeline by which VIVA institutions may choose to join Rapid.

To support VIVA institutions with their implementation, VIVA formed the RapidILL Implementers Group. The group meets quarterly and involves open-ended discussions around how institutions are progressing with their implementation, any challenges and successes they are encountering, lessons learned, best practices and resources, and any outstanding needs that need to be addressed by the vendor. Please write to viva@gmu.edu if you are interested in joining the Implementers Group.

RapidILL statistics are available on the ILL Statistics: Data on VIVA Borrowing and Lending webpage and will be updated on a monthly basis.
