VIVA Broadens Open Access for Virginia with a New Wiley Agreement

Please note that this project has been put on hold through the end of 2021.  We hope to return to it at a future date.

In its ongoing efforts to design innovative and sustainable approaches to library subscription models, VIVA is pleased to announce a new pilot program in partnership with Wiley.

The first of its kind in North America, the VIVA Wiley agreement includes both Open Access publishing funds and journal subscriptions. This comprehensive approach allows researchers from any participating VIVA institution to publish in fully gold open access journals using a central fund, while maintaining access to the full extent of Wiley journal holdings for the consortium. The pilot agreement begins in 2020, and all participating VIVA member institutions and affiliated researchers are included and may apply for funding of gold open access articles.

Leveling the playing field for students and researchers in Virginia is core to VIVA’s purpose and mission - removing open publishing barriers for Virginia authors and to the research they produce directly supports this work.

Looking forward, VIVA will continue actively working with consortial members, and publishers that are willing to innovate, to develop and propose new models that support both sustainable and open modes of scholarly communication for Virginia.
