Director
Genya M. O’Gara (she/her/hers) serves as the Director of VIVA, having joined the consortium in 2015. In this role she provides leadership and administration for the consortium’s programs and operations, including managing the expenditure of the VIVA budget, overseeing content negotiations and contracts, and implementing consortial initiatives on behalf of VIVA’s 71 member libraries. Genya has held several positions during her tenure with VIVA, serving as Acting Director, Deputy Director, and Associate Director.
Prior to her work with VIVA, Genya held a variety of roles in academic libraries, including as Director of Collections at James Madison University, where she led the Collection Management, Digital Collections, Special Collections, and Preservation units. Preceding that, she served in multiple positions at NC State University in both the Special Collections and Collection Management departments.
Genya publishes and presents on emerging models of content development and assessment, with a focus on digital collections, scholarly publishing, and collaborative collection development. She holds a master’s degree in Library Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a bachelor’s degree from the Evergreen State College.
