Genya M. O’Gara (she/her/hers) joined VIVA Libraries in 2015. As Deputy Director her responsibilities include implementing consortial initiatives, developing content management and acquisition models, supporting VIVA committees and working groups, assessing and evaluating collections and services, and coordinating the open and affordable course content program.
Prior to joining VIVA, Genya held various roles in academic libraries, including as Director of Collections at James Madison University, where she led the Collection Management, Digital Collections, Special Collections, and Preservation units. Preceding that, she served in several roles at NC State University in both the Special Collections and Collection Management departments.
Genya publishes and presents on emerging models of content development and assessment, with a focus on digital collections, scholarly publishing, and collaborative collection development. She holds a master’s degree in Library Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a bachelor’s degree from the Evergreen State College.
