Understanding Open Education Support Needs in Virginia

In Fall 2023, three 90-minute focus groups, approved by the George Mason University IRB as 2073452-2, were conducted to learn more about the obstacles and reasons for engaging with open educational initiatives, as well as to understand the barriers and support needed to transform the curriculum using open educational resources (OER). The three groups included: (1) faculty and instructors at Virginia higher education institutions who are already using OER in their courses; (2) faculty and instructors at Virginia higher education institutions who have engaged in an OER training but have not fully transformed their curriculum to OER; and (3) library OER campus leaders from VIVA member institutions.
