CFP: VIVA Open Adopt Grants

VIVA is pleased to announce a new round of VIVA Open Adopt Grants has opened, with an application deadline of May 2, 2025. VIVA Open Adopt Grants provide awards of $2,000 to individual instructors to support the time it takes to integrate existing open or no-cost materials into a syllabus, and to ensure that the results of those efforts are widely available to Virginia educators. 

This spring, Adopt Grants will be awarded in three categories: 

• VIVA Open Adopt and Curation Grants: Adopt and Curation Grants offer support to faculty who have identified a single pre-existing resource or a group of resources that can be curated into the materials needed for a single class. Grants in this category can adopt/curate any openly available resource(s), regardless of the author or where the resource is located. 

• VIVA Course Mapping Grants: Course Mapping Grants are offered to instructors who would like to adopt a resource that has been identified and reviewed by Virginia subject experts as appropriate for a Transfer Virginia Course. These resources must be included in the Course Mapping hub on the VIVA Open site.

• Community and Public Health Nursing Targeted Grants: Community and Public Health Nursing: A Call to Action is a primer exploring the roles of community and public health nurses. This open textbook and an accompanying instructor guide were authored by Virginia researchers and supported through VIVA Open Publishing. Grants in this category are for instructors who would like to adopt this specific text in their classrooms.

VIVA Open Adopt Grants will be awarded to individual faculty members hoping to adopt an already existing open resource.  Team and departmental adoptions, as well as projects seeking to create new Open Educational Resources, should apply for the next round of the larger scale VIVA Open Course Grants.

Between now and the May 2 deadline, VIVA will be holding two webinars where applicants can get information and ask questions. They will be held at the following times:
