VIVA: Curriculum Driven Acquisitions Program FAQ
Q: For participation in the program how many e-books can one institution purchase?
A: VIVA will purchase as many books as match your curriculum adoptions provided they are available in unlimited simultaneous user e-book format in GOBI and that there is a contract (institutional or consortial) associated with the e-supplier.
Q: Are e-book purchases available to the specific institution or to the entire VIVA community?
A: E-books are purchased on behalf of the specific institution only.
Q: Are there limitations on the number of users accessing the e-books simultaneously?
A: All e-books will have unlimited simultaneous user access.
Q: What kind of e-books are being purchased through the program?
A: Scholarly monographs that are common to library collections reflect the types of e-books typically purchased through the program.
Q: What bibliographic data needs to be on the bookstore lists to facilitate matching?
A: Critical pieces of information for matching lists to content in GOBI include title, author, edition (if applicable), and ISBN. Lists should be formatted using spreadsheet software. VIVA has instructions for formatting lists to Excel if necessary.
Q: What e-suppliers does VIVA purchase from?
A: VIVA has consortial contracts with EBSCO, Taylor & Francis, and Cambridge University Press. VIVA may also use local contracts to acquire titles for the CDA program.
Q: Do the students pay anything for the textbook?
A: There are no costs to students.
Q: Will the books still be available to students after the Fall/Spring semesters?
A: The books will be held in perpetuity by the participating library and may be used in subsequent offerings of the course.
