Small Publisher Approval Plan

Background

Following conversations with small publishers and distributors of small publisher content, which emphasized the importance of print as a format for small publishers, the Support for Small Publishers Task Force recommended creating an approval plan that would purchase and distribute print books by small publishers, with a focus on those that represent historically marginalized voices, across Virginia.  The public institutions began using Central Funds for this purpose in 2022, and the private institutions began using Pooled Funds for this purpose in 2023.  The publishers, shown on the Excel file linked to the right, were distributed across the institutions based on their local preferences, with balancing among the institutions to achieve  overall diversity and a minimum of duplication.  The schools use GOBI to facilitate the approval plan.
