"Social Justice: Moving From Awareness to Action in LIS"

Renate Chancellor, Catholic University

Abstract: Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion is driven by social imperatives that have challenged Library and Information Science (LIS) educators and professionals to prioritize internal work, examine our own implicit biases, and to actively educate ourselves on what antiracism requires as individuals and as a profession. This talk explores the broader historical context of the struggle for equity and inclusion in LIS and examines how the profession struggles to uphold the democratic principles that it was founded on.
