The Virtual Library of Virginia (VIVA)
New for Fall Semester 2010
VIVA, the Virtual Library of Virginia, is pleased to announce the acquisition of APA PsycNET, a search platform from the American Psychological Association. Available immediately to students and faculty at all VIVA institutions, PsycNET allows users to research and access full-text and bibliographic references from leading databases for the behavioral sciences.
PsycNET expands access to a wealth of trade and scholarly psychology literature previously unavailable to VIVA institutions and replaces previous arrangements at a significant cost savings for VIVA and its member libraries. With more than 15,000 students currently enrolled in undergraduate and graduate psychology programs, the discipline is among the most popular in Virginia. PsycNET will directly support this large and growing number of Virginia students and faculty.
“The new contract with APA offers excellent pricing for VIVA and significant discounts for all VIVA members on additional APA resources,” said Sharon Gasser, chair of the VIVA Resources for Users Committee and RFP Committee. “VIVA members are enthusiastic about PsycNET, and VIVA looks forward to its new partnership with the American Psychological Association.
PsycNET includes access to leading sources for psychology and behavioral sciences:
VIVA is the consortium of the libraries of 73 non-profit research or higher education institutions in Virginia, including 39 state-assisted colleges and universities at 55 campuses within the Commonwealth of Virginia, 33 independent private, nonprofit institutions, and The Library of Virginia. VIVA's mission is to provide, in an equitable, cooperative, and cost-effective manner, enhanced access to library and information resources for Virginia's academic libraries serving the non-profit higher education community. VIVA is funded by the Commonwealth of Virginia through the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) and by investments from participating institutions.
